Circular Reasoning
Sometimes our thinking looks like this:
I want item A, so I need to do task B.
Or, I know that my goal is THIS, so I need to do THAT.
What gets me is this verse:
”The beginning of wisdom is this: get wisdom….”
Huh - but how do I get it if I don’t have it, and where to I start if I have not gotten it??
That’s the point: the wisdom we must seek is not found in ourselves, nor does it begin with us. It begins with the One who founded the earth with his Word, by Wisdom. If we seek that, we will gain it. If we pursue it, we will know it. If we obtain it, we will desire more wisdom.
One more thing: the “fear of the LORD” is the beginning of wisdom. Paired with the verse above, then the idea of “getting wisdom” must be co-equal with “fearing the LORD.”
So love, honor, fear God; seek His ways - and in doing so, you will gain wisdom. But you will never stop, because you will never have enough.
